CW2: State Change

One of the factors of state-change is changing the location, which we experienced in our empathy interviews. In the first stage, where we interviewed the neighbours, roles seemed to be specific, as one shoots the questions and the other records the answers in some form. I found this to change when we move to the shopping mall, where the atmosphere was more relaxed. Roles seemed to be more flexible, and two members would interview and record at the same time. Also, Chinese speaking members were more welling to translate when we interviewed younger or more educated people. If we compare this to the more intense, yet comfortable class team work, especially while building the prototype, ideas were implemented in a solo mode, which I think is a form of distributed intelligence, although it can create some contradictions in the design.

During the 5X5 activity, and due to the language barrier and the limited time, ideas were not shared immediately, and only quick translation of the popular ones took place. I believe that cultural differences were factors in how question were perceived, hence a diverse range of answers appeared that some of seemed irrelevant. Overall, I would say sharing of input is what could be improved and probably a quick overview of what is meant by each idea would open new horizons for sharing and being on the same page.
